When wellbeing sits at the heart of teaching and learning, not added on top, but embedded in a school's culture, something wonderful happens. Students engage more deeply and academic fitness builds. Schools become places where learning doesn't just happen, it flourishes.

That's the conviction PESA was founded on in 2014. And more than a decade later, it's what continues to draw educators, school leaders, researchers, and practitioners to this community.

The research backs it up. Wellbeing isn't separate from academic achievement, it is what makes it possible. Just as physical fitness underpins athletic performance, wellbeing builds academic fitness: the engagement and openness to learn that students draw on every day. Students who feel safe and connected learn better. They are more focused, more persistent, and better equipped to navigate whatever school and life brings. When schools place wellbeing at the centre of teaching and learning, they're not taking time away from academics, they're strengthening the very foundations learning is built on.

And for educators, wellbeing isn't a bonus, it's the foundation. Teachers who feel supported and purposeful are more effective, more present, and far less likely to leave the profession. In a time when burnout and retention are among the most pressing issues in Australian education, that matters.

The community makes it possible. Wellbeing education is deeply personal work. It asks educators to reflect on their own wellbeing as much as their students'. It's the kind of work that's easier and richer when you're not doing it alone.

Today, more than 1,200 members across 14 countries are part of PESA's community of practice. They span every kind of school such as public, independent, and religious-affiliated as well as the organisations, institutions, and providers that champion wellbeing education, from early education centres and tertiary education to research bodies and professional practices, reaching regional communities to metropolitan cities.

PESA member schools across Australia alone collectively educate more than 120,000 students - young people in schools where someone has made a deliberate choice to put their flourishing at the heart of everything they do.

Many of those members have been here for years. They return not out of obligation, but because the learning and the connection continue to matter. New members arrive and find a culture of generosity. Knowledge is shared across sectors and industries. Questions are welcomed. The assumption, always, is that everyone is working toward the same thing.

This is a community for people who already know that when wellbeing sits at the heart of teaching and learning and when young people and educators thrive, everything else follows.

Whether you're just beginning your wellbeing education journey or you have been building academic fitness in your school for years, there is a place for you here.
